Movement lawyering describes a model of public interest practice where legal professionals use the law to win change impacting the material conditions of individuals and communities directly impacted by injustice. IDRA uses a movement law approach to democratize legal information and tools, making them accessible to youth, families, and communities seeking education justice in public schools. Because youth legal rights in education often “spoil” quickly, serious harms can occur with limited windows for redress. And because there is little pecuniary incentive for attorneys to get involved in school-level proceedings, youth and families are often left to navigate education law systems alone. In this session, participants will learn how attorneys, law firms, and community advocates can support students and families seeking education justice.
