Identification documents, such as birth certificates, marriage licenses, and school records, are typically required for individuals to obtain housing, employment, educational opportunities, medical care, and more. A state ID card is sometimes harder to get than people think, especially for those experiencing homelessness. The rules, regulations, and laws surrounding state-issued IDs and vital records are often overly complicated, and the process can be extremely difficult to navigate, especially for those who are most vulnerable in our communities, such as survivors of abuse, veterans, unhoused individuals, etc. This presentation will dive deep into the ins and outs of ID recovery, including tips when dealing with difficult agencies and navigating the little-known laws involving IDs and vital records.
