As legal aid attorneys assisting tenants, we are often in a defensive position defending evictions. Sometimes, we should go on the offensive. In this session, we will cover how, when, and where to file (relatively) simple cases against landlords with a focus on lockouts and utility interruptions. You will be provided complete template packages including the application for writ of reentry and writ of restoration, prove-up questions for the hearing, affidavit of disobedience (contempt), and petition to file for damages after you get the tenant back in the unit and/or the utilities restored.
