Harm reduction provides a framework for understanding the complex needs of individuals with substance use disorders. Harm reduction offers valuable insights and strategies for legal aid attorneys to better serve clients with substance use disorders. By embracing the principles of harm reduction, attorneys can provide more compassionate, effective, and equitable legal representation. This session aims to enhance legal providers’ understanding of substance use disorders impacting indigent Texans and their families. We will highlight how harm reductionists prioritize meeting clients where they are, fostering empathy and trust to better support them through legal challenges. Attendees will also learn about the importance of partnerships and collaboration in harm reduction initiatives, and how legal aid attorneys can leverage these relationships to provide comprehensive support to clients.
