The basics of disaster law beginning with what is required under the Stafford Act for a federal declaration,, preliminary damage assessments, other local resources being overwhelmed by those seeking assistance, and types of disaster declarations; how disaster declarations impact what options are available to disaster survivors; ; the process individuals must follow to receive assistance from organizations such as U.S. Small Business Association and Federal Emergency Management Agency; and some of the common legal issues seen in the wake of disasters. This presentation would also include discussion about some of the special circumstances that need to be considered when working with those who have gone through a traumatic experience such as a lot of natural disasters.
