TRLA Staff attorney and members of the social work team will encourage new and experienced advocates to learn social worker best practices using social work systems and rational choice theory. Using these theories, we will offer the best legal aid and holistic support to the people who legal aid helps. We will discuss self-determination and what humans’ basic needs are. Advocates will learn and discuss strengths-based practices and approaches while helping clients. And advocates will be able to learn cultural competence and how to respect diversity in the clients we work with. Using these practices legal aid can offer the best possible support to clients with whatever legal help they are requesting. In addition, we will offer insight into why having a social worker is helpful and when to collaborate with a social worker. Who you gonna call?
